History

On January 14, 1983, the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee decided to organize the establishment of Shenzhen University. The school will occupy a land of 1,500 acres. The campus will be located on the bank of Guangdong Haimen Shenzhen Bay and 16 majors will be set up. On March 8, the Guangdong Provincial Government approved the establishment of Shenzhen University. On May 10, the Ministry of Education notified the establishment of Shenzhen University with the approval of the State Council. On May 11, the Office of the Preparatory Committee of Shenzhen University was listed. In the fall of this year, some majors enrolled students. On September 27, the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government held the inauguration and first opening ceremony of Shenzhen University in Shenzhen Theater.

In the early days of its establishment, Shenzhen University accepted assistance from universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Renmin University of China.

In August 1984, the campus was initially completed and put into use, and moved to the newly built campus in September.
In 1985, with the approval of No. 011 document of the Department of Education and Research of the former State Education Commission, Shenzhen University began to recruit postgraduates in Political Economy (Special Zone Economy) and Enterprise Management. By 1988, a total of 19 postgraduates were enrolled in 4 sessions.
In the summer of 1993, Comrade Jiang Zemin inscribed the school name for Shenzhen University.
On September 1, 1994, with the approval of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and Shenzhen, the original Shenzhen Teachers College was abolished and the Shenzhen University Teachers College was established.
In 1995, it passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the State Education Commission.
In 1996, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, he was authorized for a master’s degree.
In 1997, the college system was implemented, clarifying the idea of ​​running a school that focuses on undergraduate education and actively develops graduate education.
In 2000, the school established the goal of transforming from a simple teaching type to a combination of teaching and scientific research.
In 2005, it was approved to become an engineering master’s degree authorization unit, and two new engineering master’s training fields were added.

In 2006, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, he was authorized for doctoral degree. In the same year, the Shenzhen National Biochemical Engineering Technology Development Center was incorporated into Shenzhen University as a whole; the school was selected as the National University Student Cultural Quality Education Base.
In 2008, the Xuefu Hospital project under construction was officially transferred from the Municipal Health Bureau to Shenzhen University.
In October 2009, Shenzhen University and Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. jointly established the School of Rail Transit, relying on the construction, operation and management of the School of Mechatronics and Control Engineering.
In 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and became an authorized unit of exemption.
On January 21, 2013, the School of Industrial Design Characteristics of Shenzhen University (Yantian) was officially inaugurated in Yantian. On January 29, he was selected into the National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. In April, the school established the Medical Department of Shenzhen University.
On November 27, 2014, Shenzhen University officially issued a document to establish a graduate school. In the same year, the Golf Academy of Shenzhen University was merged into the Teachers College of Shenzhen University.
On December 28, 2015, the Ocean College of Shenzhen University settled in the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone.


In 2016, the School of Applied Technology of Shenzhen University enrolled for the first time. On July 6, Shenzhen University and Nanshan District Education Bureau signed a cooperative school agreement and the unveiling ceremony of the primary school affiliated to Shenzhen University was held. On September 29, Shenzhen Nantes Business School was inaugurated. On October 11, the school signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
In 2017, Shenzhen University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Graduate School of Talents Training and National Conditions Research Base and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences School of Marxism jointly recruited “Marxist theoretical backbone talents” doctoral students for cooperative training. On February 27, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, School of Life and Ocean Sciences, and Department of Medicine of Shenzhen University formally settled in the Xili campus of Shenzhen University, and the Xili campus was officially opened. In September, it was awarded the first Civilized Campus of Guangdong Province. In November, it was awarded the first National Civilized Campus. In December, Shenzhen University became a member of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance. In the same year, Shenzhen University issued a paper to establish the Faculty of Teacher Education.
On October 30, 2018, Shenzhen University and Sichuan University signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shenzhen. On November 13, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology jointly announced the list of higher education institutions and key disciplines for the “first-class, shortcomings, and strong characteristics” improvement plan for higher education. Shenzhen University has been included in the list of key universities for high-level universities in Guangdong Province. On November 20, the School of Public Health of Shenzhen University was established. In December, Shenzhen University and Nanyang Technological University signed a strategic cooperation agreement.


In July 2020, it was selected into the second batch of universities’ national intellectual property information service center construction list. In the same year, he joined the Shenzhen University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance.
On October 16, 2020, it was selected into the “2020 National Intellectual Property Pilot University List” by the State Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Education. On October 29, it became the governing unit of the Student Management Research Alliance of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese in Guangdong Province.
